We’re Here to Help

Heartsong is built by a team who genuinely cares about your experience. If something isn’t working the way it should — or if you just have a question — We’d love to hear from you.

Getting Started

What do I need to use Heartsong?

Heartsong runs on iPhone and works best with:

  • Apple Watch — For real-time heart rate and respiratory tracking that shapes your generative audio experience.
  • AirPods Pro — For spatial audio with HRTF rendering, delivering an immersive, three-dimensional sound field.

You can use Heartsong without either device, but connecting them unlocks the full biometric-responsive experience.

How do I connect my Apple Watch?

Heartsong automatically pairs with the Apple Watch companion app. Make sure:

  • Your Apple Watch is paired with your iPhone in the Watch app.
  • The Heartsong Watch app is installed (it should install automatically).
  • HealthKit permissions are enabled: go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Heartsong and allow heart rate and respiratory rate access.

Do I need headphones?

Headphones are recommended for the best experience — especially for sleep sessions that use binaural beats, which require stereo separation to work. AirPods Pro provide spatial audio rendering, but any stereo headphones will work beautifully.

Common Questions

Why isn’t my heart rate showing up?

Check the following:

  • HealthKit permissions — Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Heartsong and make sure heart rate reading is enabled.
  • Apple Watch fit — Ensure your Watch is snug on your wrist. A loose fit can interrupt the optical heart sensor.
  • Watch app running — Open the Heartsong companion app on your Apple Watch before starting a session.

Can I use Heartsong for sleep?

Absolutely. The Sleep engine is designed for exactly this. It uses a three-act arc — Lullaby → Drift → Void — that transitions from warm musical beds to delta-wave binaural beats and isochronic tones, gently guiding your brain toward deep, restorative sleep. Set a soundscape with a “deep sleep” intention and let it run.

What is the Conductor?

The Conductor is Heartsong’s real-time orchestration engine. It listens to your biometrics — heart rate, heart rate variability, and respiratory patterns — and makes musical decisions in the moment: choosing which stems to play, shifting harmonies, adjusting tempo, and fading layers in and out. You can watch these decisions live during any session by opening the Conductor view.

What does “Let the Universe Decide” do?

When you tap “Let the Universe Decide,” the AI selects an intention, mood, and sonic palette for you — creating a soundscape you’d never think to build yourself. It’s a way to surrender control and discover something unexpected.

How do I save a recording?

After a session ends, Heartsong will ask if you’d like to keep the recording. Saved sessions are stored as high-quality M4A files on your device. You can find them in your session library and play them back anytime.

Where is my data stored?

Everything stays on your device. Heartsong does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. Session history, saved recordings, preferences, and health data all live locally on your iPhone (and in your personal iCloud backup if you have it enabled). See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Troubleshooting

Audio cuts out or behaves unexpectedly

  • Make sure Background Audio is enabled (Heartsong needs this to continue playing when the screen locks).
  • Check that Focus Mode or Do Not Disturb isn’t silencing the app.
  • If you’re on Bluetooth headphones, try disconnecting and reconnecting them.

The app feels slow or unresponsive

Generative audio sessions are computationally intensive. If you experience lag:

  • Close other background apps to free up memory.
  • Restart the app.
  • Make sure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS.

A session didn’t save

If the session recording didn’t persist, it may have been interrupted before the audio file was finalized. Use the Send Last Session feature in Profile → Support to email the diagnostic logs and the last session recording to us — this helps enormously with debugging.

Sending Diagnostics

If you’re experiencing a bug, the fastest way to get help is to send us diagnostic info directly from the app:

  • Open Profile → Support.
  • Tap Send Logs to share app logs, or Send Last Session to include your most recent session recording.
  • This opens a pre-addressed email — add a description of what happened and send.

Your diagnostic data is only sent when you explicitly choose to. Nothing is ever transmitted automatically.
