Heartsong Privacy Policy

Heartsong (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is developed by Bryan Hughes. This Privacy Policy explains how Heartsong handles information when you use our iOS and watchOS applications.

Our Core Principle

Your data stays on your device. Heartsong is designed with a privacy-first architecture. We do not collect, transmit, store, or sell your personal data to any external server, cloud service, or third party..

Information the App Accesses

Health Data (Apple HealthKit)

Heartsong requests permission to read health data from Apple HealthKit, including:

  • Heart rate — Used to provide real-time biometric-responsive audio experiences and meditation depth analytics.
  • Respiratory rate — Used by the Apple Watch companion app to inform breathing-aware audio adjustments.
  • How it is used: All health data is processed entirely on your device in real time. It is used solely to personalize your audio experience during active sessions and to calculate personal wellness statistics such as “Meditation Depth” and “Time to Calm.” Health data is never transmitted off your device, stored on any external server, or shared with any third party.
  • Your control: You can revoke HealthKit access at any time through Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Heartsong on your iPhone.

Audio & Background Audio

Heartsong uses background audio capabilities to continue playing generative soundscapes when the app is not in the foreground. The app does not access your device microphone for recording or listening purposes.

Bluetooth

Heartsong uses Bluetooth connectivity to communicate with the Apple Watch companion app for real-time biometric data transfer between your paired devices. No Bluetooth data is transmitted to external parties.

Locally Stored Data

Heartsong stores the following data locally on your device:

  • Session history — Records of your meditation and sleep sessions, including duration, biometric snapshots, and selected soundscapes.
  • Audio recordings — Generative audio sessions you choose to save (M4A format).
  • User preferences — Settings such as compression quality, depth preferences, and UI customizations.
  • Soundscape configurations — Custom soundscapes you create, including metadata and tags.

All locally stored data resides exclusively on your device and, if enabled, within your personal iCloud backup. We have no access to this data.

Information We Do NOT Collect

To be clear, Heartsong does not:

  • Collect or transmit any personal information to external servers
  • Use any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising frameworks
  • Share any data with third parties
  • Create user accounts or require registration
  • Track your usage behavior or location
  • Use cookies or similar tracking technologies
  • Store any data in the cloud (beyond your personal iCloud backups managed by Apple)

Diagnostic Support (Optional)

Heartsong provides an optional support feature that allows you to voluntarily email diagnostic logs or session recordings to the developer for troubleshooting purposes. This action is entirely user-initiated — you must explicitly choose to compose and send the email. No diagnostic information is transmitted automatically.

Children’s Privacy

Heartsong does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Since the app does not collect any personal data from any user, it is compliant with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Data Security

Since all data remains on your device, security is managed through Apple’s built-in device-level protections, including:
Device passcode and biometric authentication (Face ID / Touch ID)

  • On-device encryption
  • App sandboxing
  • Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
